Anti-Bullying Week – 14 – 18 November 2022

Anti-Bullying Week shines a spotlight on our school’s belief in creating a climate in which everyone agrees that bullying is unacceptable. The theme for this year is ‘Reach Out’ – encouraging everyone to come together and reach out to stop bullying. The theme of Reach Out came about following consultation with teachers and pupils by the Anti-Bullying Alliance which coordinates Anti-Bullying Week every year in England and Wales. Teachers and children wanted a theme that empowered them to do something positive to counter the harm and hurt that bullying causes.

Following the success of the campaign in 2021 – when 80% of schools marked the week, reaching over 7.5 million children and young people – Anti-Bullying Week will remind everyone whether it’s in school, at home, in the community or online, let’s reach out and show each other the support we need.’

Our call to action:

Bullying affects millions of lives and can leave us feeling hopeless. But it doesn’t have to be this way. If we challenge it, we can change it. And it starts by reaching out.
Whether it’s in school, at home, in the community or online, let’s reach out and show each other the support we need. Reach out to someone you trust if you need to talk. Reach out to someone you know is being bullied. Reach out and consider a new approach.
And it doesn’t stop with young people. From teachers to parents and influencers to politicians, we all have a responsibility to help each other reach out. Together, let’s be the change we want to see. Reflect on our own behaviour, set positive examples and create kinder communities.
It takes courage, but it can change lives. So, this Anti-Bullying Week, let’s come together and reach out to stop bullying.

At Curbar, we are fortunate that our children care for each other and treat each other with kindness and respect. We are proud of this and we are continually committed to ensuring there is no place for bullying behaviour by establishing a safe and inclusive learning environment that nurtures, supports and inspires.

Respectful behaviour towards others is part of our ethos, culture and daily life. We are aware that sometimes children fall out and have friendship issues and we do our very best to model, educate and inform our children through our spiritual, moral, social and cultural provision in school e.g. our PSHE curriculum, citizenship and collective worship. However, we don’t want to rest on our laurels and understand the importance of continuing to educate our children about Anti-Bullying to ensure that our children can identify it, speak about it and stop it.

As part of Anti-Bullying Week, we will be asking the children to complete a friendship survey. We will also be learning about Anti-Bullying in class and we will be running assemblies that support this year’s theme too.

On Monday 14^th November, children can come to school wearing ‘Odd Socks’ as a way of celebrating difference and raising awareness of anti-bullying week – the bigger, the bolder, the brighter the better!

We also invite parents to complete a short online ‘Friendship’ survey to get your feedback. We will share the results.
