‘Weather’

English

In Y1 and Y2, English is a combination of language, phonics, composition and transcription.  We will be focusing on developing and using rich vocabulary whilst exploring information texts, description and poetry?   

Reading

You can help your child at home by-

• Listening to your child read as often as possible
• Ask your child to talk about the book they are reading and talk around the story (using skills of inference and deduction)
• Playing I Spy-identifying words by their initial sound

Maths

In Mathematics, we will use White Rose Maths as our mastery approach scheme. We will be investigating place value, addition and subtraction and geometry (shape)

You can help your child at home by-

• Counting anything! 
• Play games that involve addition and subtraction.
• Continue to remind children of the correct number formation (5, 7, 9 and 2 especially!)

Phonics

We will be working on Level 3 of our new Little Wandle Phonics Programme. The Busy Bees will have fun and exciting opportunities to investigate sounds, play with rhythm and rhyme, and orally segment and blend words. We will also be developing fluency with our three weekly reading sessions.

Topic

PSHE 

PSHE is embedded in all learning areas but our focus using PSHE Matters will be ‘Relationships.’

Physical Development

Fine Motor- We will be concentrating on developing and strengthening the fine motor skills to improve our hand writing!

Gross Motor- In PE the Busy Bees will be focusing on Gymnastics including core skills, balance, agility & co-ordination.   Forest School is an excellent time for children to explore and use their gross motor skills through climbing and playing games.

Geography

In geography,  we will be looking at the Kapow unit ‘What is the weather like in the UK?’

Science

We will be looking at ‘Seasonal Changes’. 

RE

How and why do we celebrate sacred times, Christmas and all festivals?

Art and Design and Technology

We will be using the Kapow unit, ‘Drawing and making your mark’. 

Computing

We will be using the Kapow units and ‘Improving mouse skills’.

Music

‘Dance, sing and play’  from Charanga.  

Useful Reminders!

• Bring wellies, bookbags and a water bottle each day.
• Reading books are changed every Friday.
• Forest School is every Tuesday afternoon. Come dressed appropriately for the forecasted weather.
• Library is every Wednesday afternoon. Please remember to pack their library book into their bookbag so they can select another exciting read!
• PE is every Friday afternoon. Come dressed in PE kit appropriate for the forecasted weather.
